Hi All

I want to clear some bits up as i have been picked up on them and feel a bit stupid

1 ) To do my PFC test leaving all earths in block and all breakers on including the main switch i place an earth clip over the earth block and with that place the neutral probe.

I then place the live probe into the live of the main double pole switch and take the reading.

2 ) I then place earth clip over earth block place neutral into main dp and live into live main dp and take reading highest of these two is the pfc. ( Been told thats wrong )

Also told my test for main water and gas bond is wrong any one want to tell me their way.

To measure PEFC with a 3 lead tester - place line lead on line supply at main switch, place neutral lead on neutral supply at main switch, place earth lead on earth bar.

To measure PSCC with a 3 lead tester - place line lead on line supply at main switch, place BOTH neutral and earth leads on neutral supply at main switch.

The highest of these 2 is recoded as PFC for installation.

As for measuring protective bonding continuity....wander lead.

to get pfc take reading between line and earth with all bonds in place and then take reading between line and neutral and use highest.

bond tests: long lead, null out long lead and test between end of the bond cable at the db ( disconnected to ensure no parallell paths) and the other end on the pipe the clamp is attached to, not the cable or the clamp itself,

hope that helps

Thanks Lenny Seems that I was doing it wrong by placing neutral with earth on the earth block rather than neutral supply cracking explaination would you run me through your bonding test using a wander lead

With power OFF, disconnect your bonding to gas / water at the cu, clamp one end of your meter to the bond you have just dis-connected and the other end of the meter to a wander lead (which you must null first). Connect the other end of the wander lead to the other end of the bond cable at the gas / water and test the continuity and resistance of that cable.

Hi mate
when doing pfc you remove all the loads ie switch off the main isolator and circuit breakers and measure as lenny has said measure on the supply side of main isolator as this is the origin

to carry out continuity of main protective bonding conductors
Isolate supply lock off label
test for dead using approved gs38 voltage indicator
disconnect 1 end of the protective conductor ie at the extraneous conductive part ie the bs951 clamp (the gas water pipe) to remove parallel paths either end can be disconnected
check instrument working and calibrated no damage to instrument or leads
connect your R2 wander lead to your instrument null leads first then connect the wander lead to the main earth terminal and your remaining lead to the disconnected protective bonding conductor carry out test should be below 0.05ohm disconnect instrument reconnect main protective bonding conductor to MET replace covers to board and then re energize the installation
get a copy of GN3 or cristopher kitchers guide to inspection and testing as these have all the required tests hope thats a help mate
