hi ive a quick question about a single phase to 3 phase convertor a neighbour of mine purchased.
Not 100% on the details but from what i gather the unit is a 15hp motor its going to be supplying some sort of a 3ph bearing press which has a 3.5kw motor on it. In his line of work this machine would not get much use just the odd job.
he has a socket down the end of his shed which he uses for a single phase welder it is protected by a 20a mcb.
Now my question is would this socket be sufficient to run this convertor or would it more likely trip out on power up?
thanks in advance

Not really that knowledgeable about 3 phase converters but if it is run off a plug top then it is protected by 13 Amp fuse so you can't overload it. It may trip the 20A breaker, if you do your calculations it may be OK to put it on a C type breaker.

The specs don't sound right, 15HP would be approx an 11kW motor. You won't get a single to 3-phase inverter drive of this size.
3.5 kW is also an unusual size for a motor, it might be worth a closer look to check the power requirements.
