Discuss photocell and time clock wiring in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Im assuming its for the outside lights , so as dave has said , if its a light load the direct from the photo cell or if its larger load then via a contactor

difficult to say if the timeswitch you have got is similar to one i tried. it looks like it. looking at the wiring diagram, the timeswitch has not got a neutral and is designed to be fitted in place of a wall switch.( Live and switched live ). the one i tried , for some reason, could not be used with a photocell, something to do with both units being electronic perhaps. i ended up with a knackered time switch and had to rellace it with a mechanical one.

well the first one blew it's fuse. took it back. replacement worked for 1 day then died.

i assume it's a rechargeable battery, charging off L and S/L when switch is open, similar to how the neons on MK illuminated plate switches work.

so would i connect the line return from my photocell into either the normally on or normally off contact then come out of the same terminal down to my a1 of my contactor?

so do i wire my return live from my photocell to either the normally on or normally off of my time clock then wire from the same terminal down to a1 of the contactor?

Hi There

I ama bit confused reading the posts here, if the time switch has a battery it will need permanent live and n connection. I can see two ways of connecting it, the clock has voltage free contacts and i would connect Live of photocell to ter 8 of clock (live In) and Load neutral to N of photocell i would then take L out of photocell to Term 2 of clock sw connections and lighting or contactor to term 1 of clock (do not fit link between 2 and 8) Another way is to fit link between 2 and 8 of clock and connect Term 1 of colck to L in photocell N clock to N of photocell and N and L out of photocell to your load. Down side to this method is photocell is not powered until clock is on.

Also you need to check what your load is resistive or inductive as clock only power 5amp inductive

cheers danny. 1 problem if i was to do it the 1st way you said. by connecting my switch wire from term1 to the contactor how would my photocell activate the contactor coil if term2 is switched onto term4? or would i take another switch wire from term4 down to my contactor aswell as a cable from term1
