Hi,

I am aware there are many thread like this one, but there is one particular question which I find difficult to search on the forum.
I am looking to extend into my family business (heating and plumbing) by going into electrics. They have quite a large customer base and say they get regular requests for an electrician.
I have spoken with neice (sp?), and 17th edition is where you should start if you want to carry out electical work and issue certs. He then said in order to issue certs with the neice name, you need another course (the name forgets me, any idea anyone?) so I don't have to pay a crap load to neice whenever I issue a cert. So are these 2 courses the best ones to get started. I know these training centres really like to push their courses onto people, so I wanted to get an impartial opinion. I also know just doing these courses donesn;t really prepare you for work, so I can going along to some jobs where I can stuff as we have an electricain working with us sometimes. I esstinaly want to get started with these 2 courses, then see how it goes and if I want to specialize or take further courses or something.

Thanks,

You'll need more than just going along to jobs with an electrician to learn enough to work on your own and to convince the NICEIC to allow you to register.
