What’s the general consensus on twirling (pigtailing), supplementary bonding conductors? A work colleague said that it was against the regs, as it could create an inductive coil. But surely that only works when there is a current flowing through the coil in the first place?

Now that one is a new one on me.

No it is not against the regs,
however I have heard that NG Bileys don't like it being done as it wastes time and cable
(the waste of time and materials makes sense to me as I have work for them)

Unless your gonna create hundreds of coils then it will start to act like a resistive earth under a fault current but on average ten coils aint gonna be a concern otherwise it would be common to find melted insulation on them after a fault but guess what! i aint never found this myself.

The only reason I can think for pigtailing is to provide some 'give' between the connected parts where there could be some movement/vibration.

We do it simply for the fact that piping may be altered or changed over the years thus giving flexibility to allow re-clamping nothing more really.
