I want to replace the pneumatic light switches in my communal hallway with PIR switches. There are currently four pneumatic switches operating over three floors. Is this a straightforward job, and what are the right PIR fittings to use?

thanks.

you may not be able to fit PIRs art the switch positions as there may not be a neutral at the switch. ceiling mount PIRs are the most commonly used for your purpose, but that would entail floors up and some rejigging of the wiring.

I operate a number of flats with different methods of switching. Using PIRs has caused light fittings to burn out. In one case we had to replace all the light fittings as the 2D bulbs were burning out after about 4 weeks. The problem seems to be a pulse from the PIR which upsets the light fittings. Even after fitting a capacitor it did not work. The quality of the fittings may have some bearing on the issue.
I am looking at replacing the pneumatic switches with electrinic timers but am not sure if this can be done.
The most reliable system I have is a switch ( MK make such a switch) in the fuse box controlled by wall switches. In five years we have not had any faults or lost a bulb!
