ie run live earth neutral out one pir and in and out the lights, but what if i wanted to overide one of the lights with a switch? how could i do this without it switching the other lights too seeing as they all share a switchline:(

Use a contactor - connect permanent live to live on the fitting firstly through one side of a DP switch, then via the contactor.
switched line from the pir goes to the coil on the contactor and closes the cct.
The other contacts from the DP switch connect permanent live to the outgoing side of the contactor, effectively bypassing it to turn just that light on.

Does that make any sense at all?

OK let's see if this works:

Take a 3 core from the PIR to the switch
Link COMs together and connect to permanent live, join neutral and switched live in terminal block
take 2 2 cores from the switch to the contactor: switched live and neutral for the contactor coil, L1 and L2 from alternate sides of the switch (double pole) to either side of the contactor switch
take the neutral from the coil and the live from the secondary side of the contactor switch to the fitting.

does this work? i could replace the DP switch for a one way and just join the neutral in the back of the box

i think we are on the same vibe thanks guys, just took me alot of headscratching, been couped up in this house far too long now waiing for sodding EDF to get back to me,

By the look of it that would switch the one light on independently but not off - my thinking was if you were there to switch the light on you'd activate at least one of the PIRs, but it depends how the lights are laid out.

2 lights at the 2 gable ends of a barn, the middle one in a porch, which is the one he may want to keep on after the pirs have gone out, when leaving barn yurn porch off at switch it then becomes active with the pir lights as per the 2 at the ends of the barn.

i dont really understand your drawing of a switch, how is that double pole? it looks more like 2 gang 1way to me, sorry

Yes, sorry I was trying to work out how to switch between series and parallel the other day and got confused.
Just put those 2 wires I've got coming from the switches to either side of a 2 way and off 3 position switch like this:
20 Amp Sp 2 Way and Off Grid Switch
then if you press the switch up or down it will switch between on and PIR controlled, with off in the centre position.

I don't even think the switch I drew even exists.

so with mine you can leave it on, have it on pir, but with yours you can leave it on, have it on with pirs or leave it off while the other 2 are on pir, cool, sounds good to me. what a great bashing together off heads that was!!!! cheers
