Over the past two years I have installed two PIR curtain sensors (IQ Curtain sensor E-804) in a domestic garage location. They have both operated for about a year then decided to stop sensing / switching. The sensor is switching an 8 foot fluorescent. The property is in the country so is subject to substation fluctuations and power cuts more so than in a city environment. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening.... is it the current drawn to start the fluorescent? Does anyone have a better more robust solution?

Many thanks.

The data sheet for the IQ E804 Curtain Sensor states ... "suitable for the switching of maximum incandescent lighting load of 200W ... this product should not be used for switching discharge lighting ..." So it would appear that the switch contacts cannot handle the inductive switching of a fluorescent.

.....Well, looking at the data sheet I have in my hand [as I have just gone to replace a identical unit that has failed after 18 months!] it states "2000w tungsten halogen, 100w incadescent or 500w fluorescent"

This assuming it is the same item! I bought mine from Screwfix, but now they do not stock them anymore. Anybody know who else supplies them, please

This is the same data I had on the two burnt out units (again from ScrewFix).... I'm presuming that there may be a fault with them under certain conditions (like use with a large fluorescent) even though the spec says it can cope. I'm still trying to find a more resilient manufacturer at sensible price.... if I find one I'll post it on here.
