I'm working on a job where we have a plastered ceiling with pots above it. The engineer has asked us to chase the plaster out and clip a twin and earth cable to the potted block work and then just plaster over it. I know it should be on an rcd but I still don't like the idea of leaving the cable with no protection.
I'd be interested in what you guys think.
Cheers John

Hi John

Seems a bit of a cost saving thing to me  you would expect the ceiling to be underdrawn and the cable to be run inside the void, although the cables will not be in any danger of damage they will still need runnining in line with the fitting to 'keep the cables in the prescribed zone'. dont think there is anything in the 17th stopping you doing this as the circuit will/should be protected as the 50mm clearance will not be possible. If you are concerned about the protection issue use some pvc capping and place over the cables inside the chase you have made

Hope that helps
;)
