Hi guys, currently working on a job where the main incoming water is a plastic pipe, then from there on the whole installation is a plastic install, just wondering if anyone could guide me on what the regulations say on this because as at I can see it would be extremely pointless too use this as a form of main equippotential bonding?

Incoming services (or any extraneous metal) that may introduce an earth potential into the installation require bonding.

Plastic will not introduce an earth potential and would not require bonding.

If there is metal pipework further on in the system then it is possible (but not likely) that this could introduce an earth potential and a general rule is to test the resistance of the metal to earth and if the resistance is above 22000 ohms then it does not need bonding because the current that could be experienced by touching the metal in fault conditions will be below the fatal level.

i would install the 10mm bond but not connect it this way its there and can be connected if any alterations to plumbing are done in the future

I blame the so-called guides where it states 'there is no requirement to bond plastic services'

instead of saying something like 'of course there's no need to bond plastic you silly person'.

Any idea where these pointless sections of copper pipe can be purchased,I have a spare clamp
:D
I could sell you some cheap, never been used and only dropped once...

No s**t Sherlock!! Obviously it's an insulator!! So as I said it would be completely pointless bonding it!! But seen as how stupid the regs have gotten lately I thought I would ask advice of other qualified electricians. But then you always seem too get an keyboard warrior like yourself who feels the need to reply with an absolutely pointless reply!! If you don't have a positive answer too my question don't reply at all!! You absolutely utter moron!! :)

Apparently the Nic inspector over here in northern Ireland insists that you install it anyway incase it gets changed in the future

And for the people who don't have the brain of a 6 year old and replied with a positive response, thanks, we had already planned to run the cable in just incase there is a change to the plumbing but just wanted some feedback regarding what the regs say on doing so, thanks guys
