What's the best way to get into the plc world missed out on a couple of jobs as I have no plc experience can you self teach yourself any help appreciated

I found it helps to shout and swear at the white shirts as you call them. They clear off and let me get on with the important things like getting the plant going.

You’ve got to love phones with video on them. I’ve got a classic taken by one of the fitters. All you can see is my feet stuck out of the bottom of a panel, all you can hear is a constant stream of profanities. Then you hear “how long you be? Oh it’s him give me a call when it’s going.”

Swearing at them made me feel better and got the job going, simples.

As Tony says, Industrial maintenance can be high pressure, I've always worked in manufacturing where process stops costs money, where I work it costs ÂŁ30k per minute downtime! within a couple of minutes of getting to a breakdown the "whiteshirts" start arriving wanting to know how long it will be.

Heard that a thousand times ...used to stress me but now im quite clear and blunt.... Ill say 'My job is to get you up and running as fast as I can, when I know the problem and the expected time to resolve it then you'll know but I can't predict this before I've even looked into it' ....... Its kind of like been ask how long a film lasts before you know what film you'll be watching... yes they maybe getting there arse chewed but you wouldn't shoot the fireman if you house was ablaze would you.

Thanks for all the replys interesting reading I'm an installation electrician by trade jib approved elec just got my technicians grade after passing my design and verification employed in the maintenance world at the moment and have been for the past 6 years but lack of plc knowledge seems to be holding me back applying for jobs as most ask for plc experience got some books starting to read lol

I carry a magic wand in my box. When asked to do the impossible in these situations it comes out and i start tapping it around the plant...the message soon gets across.
