Every manufacturer’s course I’ve been on has been useless. They didn’t cover the most important thing, fault finding.
How often do you get to install a new PLC system? So why do you need to know how to configure and assign the topography? I had to, but I used the manuals. On a course for Telemecanique TSX I even had to tell the lecturer he’s set the test rig up wrong.
OK I’ve been working on PLC’s for 35 years, the first ones were a disaster. I was bought up with hard wired logic, everything happened in real time. Early PLC’s the scan rates were so slow they caused endless problems. Considering the plants we were using them on they were bloody dangerous!
The best learning tool has been dropped in the mire several times. Flying by the seat of your pants you learn rapidly. OK it’s not an approved training method but it works.
