Hi folks,

My client have a generator set rated 450KVA, 220Vac, 3P, 60Hz. Recently, the during start up of operation, the generator shut down because of an unknown trouble. When I check the power analyzer (I used for monitoring), the event that caused the shut down was "PF" which means, POWER FACTOR. Now, my client said that they have a 100Vac, 6 Khz rated machine. I just want to make sure that is there a possibility that the machine rated at 6 Khz did some trouble to the generator that caused it to shut down? Does high frequency loads affect the Power Factor of the supply? Or since the rating of the supply is only 60Hz that it shut down?

Please help me on these one.
Thanks a lot guys.

Best regards,

Thanks for the reply dept. It was really rated at 6KHz according to my client. I think they connect it to a step down transformer, 220 input from generator and 110 output to the machine. That will be checked tomorrow. Now, let's get back to the topic, would the 6Khz rated machine caused the shut down of the generator set? Did it caused to drop the frequency of the generator? :(

It shouldn't matter what frequency the connected machine runs at, as it will be, being supplied via a double wound transformer, i dare say the machine will also have other integral isolation protection. After all the machine will probably be rated at 110v/60Hz on it's primary side o things ...It doesn't do any damage to the mains supply does it, when so connected. Then it shouldn't do anything to the generator!! By the way, is this a new machine, has the generator run with this 6KHz load without incident previously??

What other equipment and loads are connected to the generator??

Thanks for the reply malcolm... That machine with 6Khz rating will be checked by tomorrow. Sir, what do you mean of a postcode? I'm sorry if I'm not yet much knowledgeable about that. The only event that appeared on my POWER ANALYZER before it shut down is the POWER FACTOR that's why I'm gathering ideas which caused the POWER FACTOR to fail. What would it be? :(

Thanks for the great idea ENGINEER54. I will confirm all your concerns to my client by tomorrow. I will be glad if you will still support me by tomorrow. Thank you Sir.
