Hey guys im completely stumped with this one

I have a problem with the vertical soil pipe outside my house the joint is leaking every time i flush the loo it looks like it was filled with cement but is missing a big chunk, now thought about replacing with cement but not sure this is the righht thing to do.

IS there any specific product i should use or is it best to get someone in to do it and how much would it cost

Sorry for all the questios and any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi There Bromd 123

I'm a plumber although I dont shout about it! My advice would be to fill the hole with clear silicone, but dry the jonit first eg wait for a dry day and try not to use soil stack for a couple to give the silicone a chanc e to dry.

Hope this helps

Steve

Is it a cast iron pipe?

Where is the joint ? if its on a bend at the bottom, then fabulous advice above. In reality, joints are usually only sealed to prevent smells escaping, the join should sit inside the other and water etc. should just fall through even if there was a gap around the join.
Is something holding the water back long enough for it to back up and leak out of a join? In any case, it would stil get the treatment as stated above, but a good scrape out and flush will give the new sealant less work to do. I do appreciate that there are many, many different joins out there. good luck Mate.
P.S. To scrape out soil pipe, rod up from the nearest rodding eye or man hole cover-i.e. you dont have to take the joint apart.

the joint is on the vertical run and is just to the side of the kitchen window runs right into a concrete slab outside so cant rod Unfortunately:mad::mad::mad::mad:

If cant rod use drain bloc to ensure all is clear before sealing joint That way you cam monitor to see if this has solved your problem Once all clear seal jont as described above

I'd use Sticks Like **** ( yes it is a product produced by Evo Stick ) works when surfaces are wet unlike silicone

Sticks Like **** 290ml - Screwfix.com, Where the Trade Buys

I can recommend this have used hundreds of tubes of the stuff in various conditions and situations and it does what it says on the tube

Can't understand the moderation of this post I quote a product name that is edited yet the link isn't:confused::confused:
Can somebody enlighten me

sounds like a part of the joining collar connecting your cast iron stack to your clay ground drainage has broken away,to repair best use promt cement, you can get small bags, fast setting ,sets in wet conditions and quick setting

never use silicon or mastic as rodents can chew through and if clear silicon used light goes through to drain and attracts rodents to a way out for a bit of fresh air and some black bin liner rummaging :)
water does not travel through the centre of the pipe it travels around the inner surface,so will leak through joints if not sealed
old cast iron joints were packed with woding at bottom and filled with liquid lead

Hope this helps :)
