hi guys new power supply has been put in on a new property and the means of earthing is a temp spike, the electricity board wont connect the main earth for PME untill its proven and they wont test, can i just do a ze on live - neautral and if the readings below 0.35 they can do it? never had this problem before thanks

There are quite a few anomolies there. Whose spike is it ...........the customer? What does the DNO mean they won't supply the PME until it is proven , they are the only ones that determine the PME and they have to test it, it's not your responsibility to prove the DNO's PME. Once they have informed you the PME is there then you can do you Ze

Have they said why they won't test it. Have they connected the supply and activated it? If they have activated their supply then the system is now a TT I assume. Could they be doing work ie fitting spikes along the neutral path to give you that PME and so won't test until it is done.

basically it was a bit of land and they ran a supply in to allow for a temporary distrobution board. for the temporary board there is a earth rod. basically the customer is waiting for the earth to be changed to pme, but the dno said they wont test it to see if pme but that was from the customers mouth so need to double check monday. i was just wondering if i set my megger for ze test like you would normally, but go from live to neutral instead of live to earth and see what the reading was and if it was under 0.35 that would be ok? .and malcolm thats what i always thought, its not down to me to know their systems supply so totally agree with you.

Are you sure the DNO didn't say that they wont connect you to the PME until they get a test cert form you confirming compliance etc???

That's the usual course of action on a new install.

PME is what is says, Protective Multiple Earthing. It either is or it isn't. If the DNO can supply it they will, if they cant they wont.

No test they carry out will make them change their mind.

As Lenny says, they are probably waiting for the full certification before they can connect you.
