Poly or mono ??

Has anyone got any strong opinions with regard to which panel is best for the Scottish climate ??. I am new to this game and am being told Poly is best for Scotland with cloudy conditions etc etc. ( although i know we're all getting it right now ! some F'in' summer ).

Also having done some online research most feed back would say they should be cheaper to buy as well.

I've also heard people recently saying that the cheaper poly panels are slightly outperforming in this dull weather.

Poly panels do tend to be lower-rated in wattage than an equivalent-sized mono panel.
A panel of 1.7 x 1m would be fairly typical for 250W mono, but a poly panel of the same size would be more like 230W.
So poly might be an issue if space is limited.

the performance advantage is likely to be in the order of 1% either way or less if everything else is the same.

stick to mono due to our weather conditions, mono are a better all rounder but poly will outperform in good light conditions if we were in spain poly all the way.

Ye Panels, Poly / mono they are all the same, swings n roundabouts, six of one half a dozen of the other, splitting hairs.

We use mono and all the jobs in Scotland perform very well seeing good results up there

its the eternal question, i have fitted both poly and mono throughout the UK and quite a bit in the north, Northumberland and Scotland etc and i have to say that i used 8.33 gallium modules and have found these to be the best performers all round with rec and Schott a close second (the latter 2 being poly). my honest opinion is that they will produce about the same be it poly or mono as long as you go down reasonable quality route. I have also been using Samil inverters, cheaper than power one and sma and they are out performing both for less money, i have also been using the v04 voltage optimezer, its better than the vphaze.

Agree, there's little to choose between a good mono and a good poly. There was a time when a mono panel would net you more power for a given size, but that advantage seems to have all but disappeared in recent times.
