I have recently had a new instal of electrics in my kitchen to which the electrician changed my previous plugs to fused sockets for my dishwasher and washing machine. I am now getting a popping sound from the dishwasher plug and a smell of burning is this a short circuit with the new system or does this mean that I have a problem with my dishwasher as I dont want to call out electrician to find the problem is with my machine and not the wiring any help would be grateful!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to say the best option is to get the electrician back if the smell of burning and the popping noise originates from the fused spur then its likely to be a wiring issue, are any fuses blowing or circuit breakers tripping????

could be either. check the plug for signs of overheating on and around the pins. then try plugging the appliance into a different socket ( a 1.5mm extension lead will do as long as you keep an eye on it) . then if it works fine, the fault is probably a loose connection behing the socket outlet.

Lol, popping noises and a burning smell means one of two possibilities, Guy Fawkes night is a month early this year or dodgy wiring.
Isolate the circuit before there's a fire, pull the fuse or knock it off on the circuit breaker. Call the electrician back. If you mess with anything you'll probably void warranties etc.

Thanks for all your replies I have checked the normal issues like the plug on dishwasher and the general wear and tear and all fine so sounds as though could be dodgy wiring or loose connection somewhere Many Thanks Guys I knew I was in the right place for prompt replies will call electrician tomorrow.

tell us what he finds.

I would also stand around and watch when he pops the plug top off. Any signs of scorching means it was probably wired poorly.

Thanks for all your info guys Electrician been out today and solved the problem with a replacement switch and all ok at mo and no Rice Crispies in sight!!!!!!!!
