My MCS is due for renewal mid-June and given the current EPC shambles and muted severe cut in July to the FIT, I trying to forward plan on whether Ill renew or not. Has any one heard if there is a potential rate being proposed as it should be announced in the next few weeks. Figures Ive heard are round the 12-15p range.....

From July, 13.6p, 15.7p or 16.5p was proposed for <4kW domestic a few months ago, with the rate depending on the take-up of PV during the spring and early summer.
Given the farce over dramatic and unexpected FiT rate cuts during the winter, I can't imagine that July's actual rate will be dramatically different from those proposals, otherwise we're back to court again.

With PV take-up now at a disappointingly low level, I cant see justification for 13.6p to come into effect, leaving a FiT either side of 16p as the most likely rate.
But last-minute June panic-buying of PV may tip the scales.

Doesn't the rate depend on installations before June? Maybe in March-May or sometime? They surely won't wait until the end of June to tell us the FiT from 1st July? That would be crazy, even for DECC !

it is based on installations between March 3rd and April 30th 2012. We are almost certainly going to hitting the threshold for the higher feed in tariff rates of 16.5p/kWh for July 1st onwards

But it's looking more likely that there will be a reduction from 25 years to 20 years. DECC have been saying that the consultation showed that installers weren't too concerned about the reduction from 25 to 20 years but were concerned about the proposed constant degression changes and would prefer fixed terms.

I've asked my software guy to send me through some alterations so I can see what difference this makes to overall payback - if anyone has a spreadsheet they are willing to share that would be even better :-).

Bring back 43p but for five years only. Customer's system pretty much paid for by the FIT then simply benefits from free leccy and export payments thereafter. But what do I know?

Brilliant idea! When do you start your secondment at DECC - after all you can't be busy with solar ;-)

I did apply for a position at DECC (yup, it's getting desparate and man cannot live on baked beans alone). However, I made the mistake of being able to identify my bumhole from my elbow. I'm "overqualified" apparently.:24:

I've always said and wondered why the FIT's didn't just pay for the install. It has all been approached in the wrong way since day one. Offering to pay for the system is one thing, but offering to then provide an income afterwards is madness and what has led to a lot of greed including solar farms, rent a roof and all the customers who looked at the process as a money making scheme rather than a feasible solution to reduce carbon emission (if it helps) and dependency of big energy companies.

I imagine the problem was it could have been open to abuse via inflated installation prices ( because that never happened last year did it...) but there must be a mechanism available to stop this.

Got to agree with sambotc.
A decent payment offering a rapid payback over a shorter period of time.
The problem of overcoming inflated prices is overcome by just making it for a set period, then the market has to fit in, say 7 years ( I think 5 is a bit short).
That will also encourage take up even if the householder does not intend to stay in their house for years.

Just been on to the DECC excel sheet showing the number of weekly installs and the numbers are dropping. 0-4kW last week there were 579 systems registered (1742kW worth). Im finding the EPC is confusing the issue, especially with farms and spent about 40 mins trying to get clarification from MCS, REA etc.....

Not good reading ! Another Fxxx up by the govnmt, I really just can't understand their incompetence. They need to get their heads out each others back sides and visit the firms and understand the industry, they rely too much on independant advice consultants and reports. who on earth thought/advised the DECC about EPC, Ideas and "blue sky" thinking is great but are they practical ? No !

I would refer you back to my oft repeated previous comments!
This is nothing to do with the environment. It's nothing to do with the green deal. It's nothing to do with supporting the industry. It's nothing to do with a logical, well thought out and planned energy policy.
It's to do with Whitehall lining their own pockets and fulfilling their own self interest, and that means centralised energy production.

Just to backtrack am I right in saying this as just been reading through the consultation again and it says March and April with no reference to March 3rd. I was under the impression FIT rates freom July 1st 2012 were based on uptake from March 3rd to end of April?

If its based on MArch 3rd to April then Fit scenario C with fit rate of 16.5p/kWh for < 4 kW will be implemented
