Every man for themselves is one thing. We all have houses to pay for, wives and family to feed. A level playing field would be nice. Skimp on tax, insurance, bonding, part p (if required), earth sleeving, testing and the rest. Legit guy ain't got a chance as the overheads are vast.

We could argue for a long time as to why economy is crippled, that's another thread or host of them. Cash work isn't gonna help it.

Im not justifying rough work just cos its cash, and yeah im sure lots of people lose the odd job to someone who does rough work but its not something I personally have ever had a problem with. If I wasn't part P registered I would not get even a third of the work I do (unless I was very good at pretending to be.) The sparkies I know still Issue a cert for a cash job and do it all properly.

That bit made me chuckle..... did a board change about 4 years ago ....ended up being a 3 day marathon hunting the fault ... job went from 300 to 600-odd ..... fault was NO earth sleeving on cooker feed (on back of cooker, which the kitchen had been built around of course, literally!) - it was just touching the neutral bar. Intermittently. And therefore setting off nice new RCD board.

That tiny piece of sleeving that was skimped on probably ended up costing them 300 quid.

p.s. just to qualify, there were many faults to be cleared, it was a big old house, with rooms that were hidden (completely, as in inaccessible, you could see into one through the back of kitchen cupboard, and the sockets on the wall in the room !!). The cooker was the hum dinger, so to speak. Oh! and we smashed the glass door of the cooker when it came out. Nightmare :sweatdrop:
