potterton help

i know bugger all about central heating....old potterton boiler. 16/22. 1A fuse on pcb blows as soon as the main thermostat on the boiler is turned on. any help appreciated. cheers, Tel.

Could be the gas valve. Have seen this before. You can check it's IR easy enough but do it at 250V.

Does this boiler have a fan? check that too.

Check L-N resistance too in case it's a short.

Apparently the 1amp fuse protects the fan so could be that

I'd start with the fan, followed by the inlet valve.

Failing that, the circulation pump may have failed causing 'kettleing' within the boiler.

update. looks deffo the fan. continuity is 35 ohms ( a tad low, IMO,) and IR to the casing was good at >999Meg. i suspect shorted turns. considering it's been in for 25 years, customer has gone to buy a new fan. let you all know the conclusion when it's fixed.

It's a positive pressure case boiler, hope whoever did the work is GSR and did the proper checks!
