Potting compound

Does anyone know if you can buy this stuff in small quantities, or if not, is it possible to by it in the form of how they sell Araldite - two tubes that you squeeze and mix the contents prior to use?

CPC sell the stuff (epoxy) but seems like in bags of 250g/ml, and that's too much for present purposes.

I could really do with a small tube(s).

What are you trying to pot? Usually you have to make up a reasonable amount to get the mix right.

You can pot stuff in Araldite as well.

Are you referring to MICC potting compound???

If so, I'm sure I've had some separately before but, the compound sticks usually some as part of the pot & seal kits.

This is where all my MI gear comes from, via CEF usually.

It's a small container about 60mm x 25mm x 15mmm, so nothing major. It's more of a test to gauge its usefulness to me in the long term. I was hoping for black potting rather than an off-white Araldite.

I have read that a very hard potting compound could dislodge a soldered connection - might that happen with Araldite?

Have a look at RS 851-044 which is 50 ml in a twin pack.

I've not personally had any problems with soldered connections.

I'll do that. I just read on the RS site that there i sa setting temperature of 60°C - is this typical? Do any of them set at ambient?

The curing time at room temperature (23 C) is 12 hours

If you need it to set faster then you can heat it, but it will give off some heat while setting, so don't stress the potted components.

That's typical of the thermosetting types.

Raytech magic gel is available in 170g (readily avail from tlc and other wholesalers). Does it need to be a hard setting type or are you just looking to make it water tight?
