I have had a look around but cannot find an answer does a powerOne have REVERSE POLARITY PROTECTION ??? Like smaAn installer told me he seen an power one smoke today but i didnt Know the answer why only either the above or the mc4 may have been lose any advice or experiance of this ?? I have reversed polarity onceOn a sma but i simply swaped pos for neg with no damage etc ???????

Apparently, a Power One cannot be damaged by incorrect polarity - just high voltages. Seeing as some installers appear to be forgoing the actual design aspect of installing PV, it could well be that the installer frazzled the inverter with a high voltage.

However, unless the installer is a complete idiot, I'd imagine that a loose connection would be the most likely culprit - possibly because said idiot used a pair of pliers to 'crimp' his MC4 connections.

Really? The indoor or outdoor model? All the indoors we have used have been MC3, last one fitted was 4 weeks ago.

Seems I best offer some apoligies to Biggs.

I believe the indoors and outdoors versions are actually different generations of inverter, with the outdoors being the more recent (Hence mc4 rather than mc3) more flexible and more efficient. Have a look at the detailed specs. The indoors versions would be a fraction cheaper for me, but I do not use them.

Gents

To clarify on the points raised

Yes - all inverters have reverse polarity protection.

MC3 - Only available on indoor PVI-2000 + PVI-3600 (that are denoted UK on the product label)
MC4 - On all other string inverters inc new product releases.

The OUTD IP65 (universal) unit is a newer design than the indoor models

I would like to say thanks to aurora for excellent customer service, I had a glitch on a pvi desktop, new firmware emailed same day and new SD card in post day after. Well impressed thanks.
