Power one/ABB issues...again!

Anyone else still having issues with Power one now ABB inverters. I'm still going back to a summer contract far too regularly with replacements. Most recent one is a trio 20kw replacement which has already been replaced once. Were told they've now sorted their issues but too late for our guys unfortunately so were back on the SMA's.

Might not help much but we seem to have more issues with the 20tl and the 27.6tl over anything else. No issues with the single phase units though apart from micro inverters being too sensitive for 30mA RCD's even though stated to use them in the installation manual!

Rant over.

I have 5 x 27.6 trios that break down continuously. The pattern over time is every 6 months. I have tried to get the analysis report as to why the inverters are breaking down to no avail. We are now exchanging the power one to ABB. Whether that makes a difference I'll find out this July when they are due to crap out again according to my stats. Site has a 250kW export capacity protected by relay under/over voltage. ABB claim they were a bad batch...

site has 3 power one and 2 ABB so it'll be interesting to find out how this pans out. Thank goodness for the warranty.

lucky though, out of workmanship warranty so each inverter gets a £500 plus vat exchange charge.

I have had a few failures with 3.6 OUTD units. Did last two in November. They are all rebadged ABB now and not Power One. They Pay £100 + VAT per unit for replacement on single phase swap outs. Are the ABB units actually any different other than branding?

I was talking to an ABB solar park engineer today trying to get help on my solarmax issues when I happened on this with him.

it so happens power one had two suppliers of diodes that are attached deep within the inverter. One supplier has no issues but the other was very inferior. ABB bought out power one unbeknownst to this issue as it only happens after a period of operational time usually within 12 months. The new inverters which have been rebranded have new components and ABB are currently perusing legal action against someone... That's all I know.

so, that is the issue.

As Pablo explained its a component issue on the Trio's no other units are affected. The issue is actually a compatibility issue between the IGBT bridge and the diodes, only one combination works and they don't have a record of which units have that combination in them. In general anything made after Aug '14 should be ok.

We've had a lot of issues and theres no easy solution
