Just to see other opinions on wiring for outdoor lights. If the cable was 2.5m ish up the wall would you prefer to use conduit then pull through t+e, singles, SWA, Hi tuff cable or ordinary black flex. Reason for asking is this...

..done a quote today and been round to the house to hand it over. I had mentioned to the man of the house my ideas of usinga Hi tuff kind cable previously rather than conduit.

Anyway, he's had a couple of other quotes and the other spark have said they will use conduit as its outside.

Just thought i'd see what you guys think/would prefer

I have always used conduit outside and to the flood light for example, from an adaptable box or conduit through box I use arctic flex and compression glands.

Always interested in other ways people install, was going to post a question like this myself beaten to it!

I like hi-tuf....although to be honest we tend to use conduit more often.....Hi-tuff is dead easy, great in all sorts of situations where a little more protection is required, but doesnt warrent SWA....It used to be horrible stuff to strip but has improved no end.

hi all sorry for jumping in
i was going to ask a similar question as two of my neighbours have asked me to fit a exterior light on the back of the houses, they also already have bulkhead? lights fitted over the door at the side of the houses, they have asked me to wire them so they come on with the existing light which is already switched from inside the kitchen.I have told them I may have to use conduit for protection as to just use black flex there would be no protection the run will be about 8 metres from the existing light which is 2 -3 metres from floor level and then go up a further 1 meter then 7 metres horizontal from the side to the rear of the propertys. Would it be acceptable to use the HI tuff cable you are suggesting instead as i think it will be fairly impossible to use conduit as it will cross over where the drain pipe and soil stack run down at the rear corner of the house Ive told them that the light will only work when the existing light is switched on but this is what they want what do you think is the best to use for this thanks and sorry for jumping in to the thread

cheers pushrod
it will be a lot easier as if i used conduit would be harder because of soil stack etc I have never used hi tuff so will have a look where to get some from as my local wholesaler changing hands and has nothing in stock
