My installer phoned today and told me that another customer couldnt get the feed in with British gas as they had a prepayment electric meter. He phoned EDF on my behalf and was told it would be ok to install:hurray:Has anyone had issues with these prepayment meters with British gas.

There is no technical or legislative reason why someone with a prepay meter should be disallowed a FiTs contract.

There is a separate issue that if the meter runs out of credit (and emergency credit) which will cause the supply to be shut off, then the inverter will disconnect and you will get no generation until the meter is recharged. But that is really just a matter for the owner to manage.

I have read somewhere that some pre payment meters will not allow reverse flow of electric (export), if I remember right it just shuts off the incoming supply.
Hope this helps.

i think my installer said that EDF had said that its no problem but if we have issues later then we will need to have a normal meter fitted which is fair enough.

Back in the real world, do we really think your average bod on prepay metering and free pv will really care if his meter disconnects? Apart from not being able to watch Jeremy Kyle, that is.

The investor will have to manage/police this.

Some prepayment meters do have anti-tampering controls that prevent reverse flow, but it is an easy enough job for it to be changed for another type that doesn't have that problem.

What the hell you on about free pv and Jeremy Kyle for

Ok, I'm making 2 assumptions:

1: you are on a prepay meter, you don't have sufficient funds to invest in pv

2 : Jeremy Kyle ; see above.

not that its out to do with you but im paying with that old fashioned stuff called cash and cant watch daytime telly for grafting to get the cash.lol.Can i ask why a prepayment meter is just for hard up people cos i like them so my energy company arnt drawing whatever money they want out my account and cant see anything wrong with that.

Bumcrack, "One should never assume".

You are quite correct. That's why I said average.

The Jeremy Kyle comment was tongue in cheek. I stand by my point though, your average PPM user will not care less if the pv is interupted by meter disconnection unless it directly affects them.
