Price increase in Fluorescent Tubes

Only just realised how much Fluorescent tubes have increased in price. Not long ago 4ft tubes cost me around 79p each, they're well over £2 now. Does anyone know how much more these prices are likely to increase in the next year or so??, I read that it was all down to a shortage/price increase in rare earth minerals that was driving the price up.

I was thinking the same the other day, i thought the wholesaler was on a stitch up.

It's the knock on effect from an earthquake somewhere
(maybe Japan but I'm not sure.

They mine the the white coating (trisphophor) and as a result there is a global shortage

The triphosphor tubesare slightly more expensive than the standard tubes but they're lower consumption and slightly higher output. Prices haven't increased here yet. I paid the equivalent of 77pence per four foot triphospher (osram) tube last week but we did purchaase five boxes so volume might make a difference.

when i order stuff i see the over the counter price my record was a 28w 2d 4 pin lamp from eddies £10.14 they blame the triphosphate shortage and China buying it all
