hi, i need a bit of advice of pricing a job for friends of my family.the kitchen has 10 sockets,13 lights, cooker switch. the garden has i outdoor socket,13 light fittings and the shed 1 socket and light.what would u think i shud charge? im supplying all brushed chromne sockets, switches, cable and 9 downlighters.wired all new from fuse board.its a new extension as well. What is the going rate per light/Socket point.thanks

How much would you like to earn?

Price up the materials, then work out how long it will take for labour and add an amount for profit.

Or, price per point.

General charges are between 45 - 65 ish per outlet.

Pricing is a hugely variable subject, & whilst you`re probably just looking for some ballpark quantities, a price of say £45-55 may not be appropriate depending on such things as your location, economies of scale & your business profile..

As you mention the work is for `family friends` i`m guessing you would be looking to compromise on the cost (which always adds a further complication)
I`m also guessing (please correct me if i`m mistaken) that as you asked the question, such an install isn`t part of your day to day activities.

Hopefully you`re aware that all the work that you`re proposing is notifiable under Building Regulations - new installation work within kitchens & all garden installation`s are covered. As you give few details of lengths/type of run (SWA? etc) it`s not really possible to suggest a price for outside work without more info.

Sorry its such a negative response, but with more details, forum-members will be better able to help :)

Apologies.

Strangely enough i am in the middle of doing a large quote, and its got to a point where there are things that i need to allow for and i have got no idea what to charge!!!!!!

Apologies.

None requested or required but accepted all the same - & thanks for the thanks...

Never, ever been there. You have me sympathies ;)

Gentle suggestion (Granny & eggs)
Work it out as accurately as you can... envisage, then cost in, the best case scenario of what possible hiccups could occur...then worse case (within reason)... then (this is the most important bit) have a cuppa...& then, & only then, ask yourself how much you really need the job - i.e. worst that can happen is i don`t get it & how much will that hurt my business...
Usually works for me

I have been here many times before and not had a problem.

It just seems tonight, because i have to do it by the morning, i am having a brain freeze issue.

My own fault really.

Been putting it off for over a week:D:D

Been putting it off for over a week:D:D

Why, oh why, do we do that?

"Mmm, this looks like an awkward puppy to estimate - i know, i`ll leave it to the last possible minute so as to heap as much pressure on meself as i can manage."

Often, for no inexplicable reason whatsoever...

Baffles me.

Anyway, you`d better get on with it instead of offering advice to newbies. ;)

Now! (& i`ll do the same )
