Hi everyone, iv just been asked if I would install spotlights in someones house, they want them in every room and at the moment they just have standard pendants, he gettin back to me with a num of how many, but I dnt know where to start I want to make it worth my while but also look reasonable, do I price by hour or by how many spots, what do u think n how much per light if u price by light, he buyin materials, cheers

£30-£40 per light (dependant on number they go for ) presuming you mean a recessed downlight.

Probably knock off a tenner if they're supplying fittings.

And obviously first thing is to make sure all bonding is up to scratch and RCD potected.

Price per point not by hours always worked in my favour,

Sy

Lots of variables there CJ, I do a test of any circuits to be altered first, check bonding, earthing, and supply cables, and allow an hour to test if I've got a load of fittings to remove, so that's £50 before you even start.

It's going to be the better part of a day by the time you've finished messing about so I'd call it £150 if customer supplies absolutely everything.

Make sure you put a clause in your estimate about 'relaying of carpets' Don't get caught out with lifting all those fitted carpets and having to be able to relay them perfectly... just in case

Do u not think a day rate would be better instead of per light so I gettin paid y takin carpets n floorboards up and incase I hit any probs, I not use to pricing jobs as u can tell

for downlights i price at £25 each plus the cost of the fitting. as they range from £4 to about £20 depending on the type. then again, all depends on how easy the access from above, state of the wiring/bonding/ etc. also first ensure there is cpc on lighting. if not, you'll have to either sort that or use class 2 fittings. btw, the thanks button is on the bottom left of each post. just click on it and it comes up as thanked for the post.
Oh, and I always cable in T/E to a 2" JB for each fitting, then a bit if H/R flex to the fittings.

In my eye all depends on the down light if your using the halers down light LED one then they are £40.00 plus a 17th ed junction box £3.00
HR flex labour which will have to include traveling to site etc so work out you daily rate plus parts and see how long youll take , dont forget if their are rooms above they must be fire rated
