Juggling several jobs always leads to people being slid to the back of the queue,
an unfortunate side effect of being fair and trying to do the best job you can.
I finally got around to visiting a job I had picked up from another member of my gym, lifting two fluorescent fittings up from a newly installed mezzanine. Existing fittings dropped from steel conduit on conduit rather than chain.
Now I must admit that my mind was elsewhere; I was thinking about an impending tryst with my lovely wife at 1.30. Due to the fact we have two teenagers it’s just not possible to have special cuddles when they are in the house and so we arrange a clandestine lunch and afternoon of pleasure several times a month. I would like to make it several times a week but can’t afford the loss of work or the calories and my wife can only cope with the disappointment at this sort of frequency. Any how, I removed the two tubes on the first fitting and removed the lid, I only had about 300mm working space and was both hot and bothered and anticipating a fine lunch. I cut the singles feeding the light and removed the fitting from the conduit.
What I had forgotten however, was I had not turned off the power but only removed the tubes ! I then proceeded to unscrew the vertical length of conduit and feed up the three cables. I of course received a major bolt to my left hand, fortunately this was insufficient to cause me to either yell out or plummet from the unguarded mezzanine. The job however, after turning off the power was completed and I finished in time to meet my wife at 1.30.
If you haven’t already got there the adage proved is;
''A burn in the hand is worth two in the bush.''
Thank you and goodnight
