Afternoon guys
I am just signing off a job we have completed where we have installed a cable tray across a warehouse. The cheeky plumber has gone and installed his plastic water pipe on the same tray as we have installed our armoured cables.

Does this go against the "proximity of other services" bit in the cert?

I know about the proximity of gas but was unsure of a plastic water pipe.

Cheers

Frankly that's just rude ~ Did he ask permission? Has he laid it within the tray's inner or has he fixed to the outside? Personally I would ask him to move it (I know some guys who would just throw/cut off the pipe without hesitation) Ok to use the tray brackets but not to fix to the tray itself.

The Reg you want is; 528.3 Proximity to Non-electrical services

Apart from being proper ****** off with the plumber for putting his filthy stinking pipe on the tray you'll need to look at a few things......

Is it touching any cables, are there any joints in it, is it likely to carry hot water....things that I would be thinking of if it were me.

There is a reg somewhere in the back of my mind....it may come to me in a minute.

Gaz beat me to it.

you could pre date and it wasn't there when u finished. also 200 quid from plumber or tell him to remove

200 quid from the plumber, I like your thinking.

Its only a cold water pipe and quite honestly I couldn't give a monkeys if it were there or not, its just about me ticking that box on the certificate

If it is one of these plastic speed fit pipes and it has mains pressure water in it i would be concerned if i had installed anything underneath it because there is quite a chance that it could blow its connections ! Parts 3.2 and 3.3 of 528 need thinking about if there are installs below it.

mains water pressure shouldnt be above 4 bar, and that shouldnt hurt cables. think about the commercial jobs where you find tray and ladder rack running underneath 10" pipe! it does'nt matter if its 10 m away or 10cm away, the gear will get wet! as long as there are no non IP 66 rated fittings, then you should be fine! but it is a matter of opinion and common sense as to what you can see on site!

Its an open warehouse, they wash cars in it so the pipe and the SWA cables go the same area where they have a valeting system, I am not worried about stuff getting wet, that could happen anyway, My only question is on the legality of ticking that box with a PVC pipe cable tied to it

You dont see 4" pipe fixed to tray or ladder rack though, nor should any plumber fix any size pipe upon the tray (especially without asking first) its just shows that he couldn't be bothered to install his own fixings.
