does anyone know where i can do a pts course to work on the railway and a rough idea of what it might cost

You need to get sponsored by a company(they ll do this if your willign to pay for the PTS course).
Depending on what kind of PTS card you want? There are 2 types 1 is a 2 week course which allows you to work on and near the track, The other is a 3 day course i believe ie You can work on the station as a sparky but not play around with the track.
I did 10 yrs on the rail mate good fun!
Prices id say anything from 1200 to 2k for the 2 weeker and 500 for the 3 day, Oh and you ll have to do a full medical.
If you ve got dodgey hearing or eye sight dont waste your money..
Oh and its helpfull if you can sleep for long periods of time in a transit van :D
