I have read and posted various comments recently regarding bending the rules and regulations.

I find it extremely annoying that the IEE change the regulations on a whim and we all have to tow the line.
I am the first to admit that the safer things get for the end user then the better and i accept change.

However it would be nice if these people who change the rules gave some thought to us the electricians who have to go out there and comply with them and tell our customers that things just got a whole lot more expensive.

Maybe the IEE could have the courtesy to put a series of national media adverts out to inform the public that when the electrician turns up it is going to cost you the earth to have a porch light fitted cos they have changed the regulations, then maybe we will stop getting it in the neck and they might start to believe me.

Our situation is not helped either by the DIY sheds putting up their ill advised "How to install a Consumer etc posters". I notice they dont do a "How to install a combi boiler" leaflet. Why? because Corgi now Gas Safe got the message out to the public and they are aware that only these people can work on the gas system, and if they say it needs a whatever, then thats what it gets and cost comes second.

agree m8 !
had a corgi guy out 2 yrs ago and he was charging ÂŁ78 per hr and never out of work ! its because corgi had it sorted and passed it on to gas safe that gas installers earn a good wage that everyone seems to pay but with the way things are with the electrical industry and what a non qualified person is allowed to do is why we have to try and justify not even half the gas installers wage.

Plus- you cannot buy critical gas components without showing Corgi/ Gas safe ID.
Tomorow I will be in a queue at the electrical wholesalers, behind folk asking advise on garden lights for Christmas.
I have to pay [circa] ÂŁ2000 per year- NIC/public liability etc etc- just to be in a position to install such lights.
Tony [moaning again!]
