Decided to change my Pull chord switch for my shower to a nice shiny new one but when I took off the old one i seen that the the insulation on the cables was all discoloured and had about half of it had actually worn away. On the Lives was actally black as if it had been burning. Girlfriend said The shower was replaced by her dad ( a tiler) 5 years prior and the shower has always been fine. Opened the shower up to discover it was a 9kw shower and the cable was never rewired to a 10.mm. Spoke to my dad who said you can usually get away with a 6.mm cable for a 9kw shower and the insulation been worn away and discoloured is probably due to connections not been tight enough. Just wondering everyones thoughts never came across this problem before

cheers
paul

You can get away with 2.5mm for a while being a tiler I suppose we should bow to this superior knowledge:) 9kW should really have 10mm and the you can normally get away with 6mm wont cut it if something happens and you were the last to work on the circuit.

To save upsetting your girlfriend take her out to dinner and then let her know that her dad dont think its right and neither do you.
