Working on a laege housing development in Bath I was just 16, chap I was working with was a bit of a loose cannon, you didn't mess with Terry.
Any how we used to run cables down cavities in those days, we had finished wiring this particular house, and we had used the opening where the chippy was going to slot a joist in, that's OK Sparks I'll sort it out when I fit the joist, fine you would think, wrong got called back cus there were some loose cables \, turned out Mr Chippy had got a hump on and ripped them out of the cavities. Terry was not well pleased and gave the Chippy a right kicking.
Fox trot Oscared and left me to face the Chippies mates, for some reason I was taken off site and sent home to let things cool down, not that they ever did.

I've heard of a few site managers on sites I have been on in the '80s had a scuffle behind the site cabins with other trades.

When I was an apprentice I was on a site of 500 flats. There was a little Irish chap, who was the site manager and who had a right temper on him....He had absolutely no people skills and walked around with the permanent hump. One time I was testing a flat that was near completion and he walked in, noticed one of the kitchen cupboard doors was a little wonky, went into a fit of rage and ripped the cupboard door off and ruined the carcass.....He used to do stuff like this on the regular.....Absolute plonker! Anyway there was this one time I heard him shouting at one of the Brickies, the Bricky started giving it back and the site manager offered him out. The bricky climbed down the ladder and one timed him, straight on Jaw. He laid flat on his back and every one on site cheered....Some one on the scaffold chucked the bricky his trowel and he walked off site, never to be seen again. It’s funny how the angry Irish mans attitude changed after that.

There was a scuffle outside my house this morning, never mind at work

Some builders are working a few doors down and their van has been blocking the tenfoot. Someone must have got annoyed at this and a car was revved up to a van, heated words were had and the non builder got out and started shouting the odds, until he got punched, then he buggered off
I didn't see this as I was using our downstairs facilities, but the kids gave me the rundown as they were watching the entertainment out the window.


Never seen too many scuffles on site, mainly just heated words and a lot of jostling.

A punch up on site means instant dismissal, so it rarely ever happens.

However there were a few shootings in our factory. Nothing serious, just a few kneecappings.

At least that way the perpetrator is wearing a balaclava and can't be identified.

Tower block in Leeds the tilers tiled over all backboxes before 2nd fix started....
Plenty of tiles removed with a hammer to locate said back boxes...

Would of made an interesting meet up if the two sides had been re-introduced..

I had that plasterer plastered over boxes in the kitchen then tiler comes in and tiled over, of course, it was the fault of the spark they had to come off.

once "mislaid" an expensive screwdriver set. a voltstick, and a socket tester. found in the plumber's toolbox on back of his van. this wet pants soon learnt that nosebleeds are like sh!t. they flow downhill.

Mate of mine has a few good tales ...
One time he had to work on a machine in a mill - think stereotypical Lancashire cotton mill. The isolators in the switchroom predated the idea of being lockable, so all he coukd do was hang up his "do not switch on" sign ...
Gets back to machine and finds it live. Back to switchroom to find the switch is back.on and sign on floor. Switch off again, hang up sign, back to machine to find it live again, back to switchroom to find switch back on and sign on floor.
Switches off again, hangs up sign, and hides round corner. A machine operator of asian descent runs in, throws sign on floor, switches on, and gets put on the floor with a well aimed fist from my mate.
Turns out, more than one machine on circuit, and as they are on piece rate the other guy cares not one jot other than for his machine working.
Said macine operator gets instant sack, my mate gets escorted off site for his own safety.

Where i served my time we did big installs for new factories.

Anyway one day us and loads of other contractors all in same part of building all doing our own bits.

We fitting large panel to wall and needed move some of the stuff other contractors had left in the way various items including scaffolding tubes/poles.

Guy we working with shouts "kick them ----ing poles out the way"

Turns out the lads next to us from Poland and thought this was aimed at them. And quickly escalated to big trouble involving all involved removed from site for racist behaviour and violence.

Something so simple innocent took the wrong way caused lots of trouble for months after for lad who said it.

Not a punch up but a close call for me and mate. About 15 years ago got a subbie job to help another spark with a job in Tottenham on the high street, we had been warned about how rough it was and to be careful , anyway we were due to start on the Monday but my mate rang in sick ( hangover) so we went down tuesday to a very quiet and sombre team of guys.
Apparently the day before a gang of jamaican guys walked on site and walked off with all the power tools, thousands of pounds worth. The reason nobody put a fight up was due to the fact they all had shooters in their hands .
Scary place, scary world, I've never been so glad to be let down by someone with an hangover.
