Monkey

Please tell me what bits does it take to complete a PV site,

Panels inverter etc.....

I have no PV experience and can anyone recommend were I start

No jokes please you could say I am in the dark with this subject....

A couple of panels, some bits of wire, some crimps to join the wire together, some switches so you can turn it on and off, a box to change from dc to ac, some more switches, a bit more wire, a meter and a fuse.

Then you need a couple of screws and a bit of extruded aluminium to hold them on the roof.

Simple really.

:innocent:

- Or, try the DTi guide linked to in the stickies section above http://www.electriciansforums.net/photovoltaic-solar-panels-green-energy-forum/23511-pv-guide.html

Then read the whole of the MCS Regulations.

Sorry mate, we have all invested a shed load of time and money finding out just what's needed, and unless you're on social housing every job is different. The best thing you could possible do is at least go on a course run by one the better trainers. Try The Renewable Energy Academy based at Sharp in Wrexham. Sharp Renewable Energy Academy - Sharp

Am I getting grouchy or was this request just too cheeky? :gunsmilie:

Sorry bud was not to be cheeky I wish the best of luck but its only a question sorry.

but thanks for the reply someones got balls

One question if the power fails you can not use the toy on your roof to generate free power from the sun?

why please dont take the pi55

First call would be to download the DTI guide. Second get on a recognised course. City & guides seem to be one of the better ones. Then start your research into products, suppliers and most importantly the MCS process. Install a system of your own as an example. Once qualified you can apply to one of the certified bodies to become MCS accredited. After following the MCS guides you will see the requirements for health & safety, quality control manual, working at height, manual handling etc etc.

The process is long and drawn out and will cost a fortune.

As for why the "toy" will not generate in a power cut. Give G38 a look.

Also give a look to the stickies above. Lots of valuable information in there to help you start off. Also give easy MCS a look. They now help you produce some if not all the paperwork you need to produce.

Thanks Markc, that's the nicer way to have put it, mine was a bit tongue in cheek.

@Monkey, there is a lot to an install there are probably over 40-50 different items you need for an install from Inverters to AC cable clamps, Isolators to earth rods, insulating tape to earth sleeve all depending upon the specifics of the install, add to that a dozen or so specialised tools for the job from crimps to test meters, and for most of us this was all heard earned experience.

As Markc says, if your serious,

Step 1: start with the guides above, follow them and they will give you a good idea what you'll need.

If you don't understand what the guides are saying , then jump straight to Step 2:

Step2: As for HOW to put it all together, you'll need to attend a recognised training course.
