We've been using PV-Sol for the last 5 years and paid a lot of money for the privilege, but recently they seem to have become quite mercenary about licencing and also the program is less easy to use than it used to be.

They want to charge us to get the program licences to move it to new laptops and quite frankly I've had enough of it.

So what are the alternatives you guys would recommend?

Still with PVSol. Have finally got used to the new version 7 and quite like it. Licencing issues are problematic. You used to be able to have a back up version on another machine, but this option has been removed.

I am surprised they wish to charge to simply move software to a new machine. it is normally just a kill licence and new activation code.

Other than the thing crashing from time to time, my biggest bugbear is the inability to import drawings (eg CAD files) into the 3D simulation.

It is the cost of moving that really keeps me where I am. I looked at PVsyst but was not willing to shell out best part of a Grand for it.
