hi peteelecs
i use clout nails 60-70mm long as they have a nice big head to go over the edge of the capping.
be warned though, in some older properties the mortar just disintigrates or the builder used almost pure cement in the mix and you can't hammer the nails in!! in these cases i have been known to drill the brick and insert rawl plugs and screws. hope thats helpfull.

on a good block wall 1mm or 2.5mm clips are good and are a help to plaster holding on to a smooth pvc channel.plus youve always got some to hand....
