HI All,
Been to price CU upgrade today(domestic),All fine but just not sure about the Garage Supply. It in run in 2.5mm Pyro.As long as said Pyro tests out ok,is it still ok to connect to New CU or is Pyro a No no Now ???

If it test out fine then re use it,just handle it carefully when refitting to new cu,pyro can still be found in use from before my time,I'm 47 and still giving good service there's nothing to beat it if used correctly and made off properly.

Micc is one of the most durable cables on the market and usually outlives the rest of the installation, as long as the pots etc have been made off and sealed correctly (testing will confirm any moisture) then i really doubt you could exchange it for a better method.

Why would you think pyro is a no no?
IIRC BS EN 60702 refers and it's still very much current
If it's an old install best to check that glands aren't imperial - just be careful when handling terminations that the seals haven't 'bled' or you could end up reterminating

Looks like we've created the Pyro appreciation society thread!
pity they don't teach the young sparks how to use it nowadays,I was talking to a spark about my age and he said that out of 15 at his works he was the only one who could make off a pyro end.My last lad asked about it at college and was told "they dont teach it anymore as nobody uses it" !

I wired two lift supplies in 10mm 3 core MICC only last year and i was sub'd in because no-one in the contracted company couldn't do it... well works money :) .... depends on what area of the industry you work in its still the only method in areas like petro chemical etc and is sometimes the only allowed method in some listed building like churches.
