Dad&SonB

Was wondering if anyone can help.

My 13 year old son is very keen on cars, old ones and has wanted to learn about fixing them up. I friend of ours gave in a little 49cc quad bike to fix up to help him learn.

He has stripped sorted the engine, but it is the wiring that is confusing him, as is was such a mess.

The one confusing thing is that there is a battery, but no lights or seems to be no requirement for a battery as it is pull start.

We have the cable form the pull start that feeds the spark plug, there is also the wiring for the kill switch. Then on the other side of the engine there is a cable and this feeds a CDI unit (?). What is the need for this CDI unit and battery if there are no lights on the quad and looks like there never were.

Any help/clarity of how to get this sorted out would be great as he wants to sell this to help fund his next project.

Thanks

Thats one of the problems we can find any make or model details.

All I have been to have found that it is a 49cc engine, like that would use for mini moto's.

Will try and get a photo of the electrical mess.

Don't worry about pics of electrical mess just post a pic of quod bike, cdi unit is for Ignition it just replaces the coil, when I get to a lap top will send you a link to a Company that sells all your need and have a well good tech support that will help you a lot better than I can, have used the lots and lots

Hi dudes, that there is a chinese model,i recognise the bits you have shown.... This will NOT assist your learning experience, one bit...

If your plug lead goes to a coil, the electrics you have described, will be the CDI unit triggered by the flywheel. If the lead goes straight to the stator plate, behind the flywheel, the unit(s) will be associated with other tasks, such as charge rectification, etc.

Most of those "tiring" little yokes, have electric start,or at least lights,so maybe it has been stripped out a tad.

The problem with these things as a learning curve,is success and failure, running wise, can be as much a result of luck,as it can engineering skill!

I pride myself,on being able to coax life out of most things i encounter, big, small, old or new. Not much has ever beaten me. But some of our Chinese attempts at engine driven kit...is infuriating! They should not be...what they are!

.....You can put lip-stick,and a dress,on a gorilla.....but it don't make it an air-stewardess....:wink5:
