I am a bathroom fitter who's main trade is is plumbing and tiling. For any electrical work I used to use an old boy however he unfortunately passed away. I want to undertake this work myself as it's a nightmare now trying to get a sparky when I need on my different projects. I am looking at doing a fast track course and I know these have a terrible rep on here however most of the the electrical work only involves installing downlights, UFH, cabinet lighting and electric showers. I'm not wanting to become a day to day electrician however I do want to be qualified to undertake these types of work so I'm fully insured with my company insurance. Any advice on best course of action would be appreciated.

Domestic installers course or similar
Seriously don’t bother, you get a load of meaningless qualifications for a extortionate price. You should contact you local college and do a day release course. Yes it will take time but you will be a lot better prepared than what any of those scams can even get close to offering you.

If it’s just to do the works the OP has stated ,Gaining 2392 and 2382 will be more than enough to get on a CPS.

You have implied a short course will suffice, when it clearly doesnt. No wonder there’s a race to the bottom when there is advice saying that’s all you need to get on a scam.

I never referred to it as a scam as you are.

If the OP is just wanting to alter lighting circuits, add shower circuits etc... providing he is competent, works to BS7671 and carry’s out testing what’s the issue?

The problem is he wants to be a electrician, just because that’s “all” he wants to do doesn’t make it right, there’s a lot more even for most “domestic” circuits than what that course offers.

As for scam comment if you believe there not and are actually held accountable then you have seriously been misled.

At the end of the day it’s an option available for the OP which is realistic way for them to carry out The work he wants to undertake.
Yes obviously the best option is the long route but that’s probably not going to happen from the 1st post is it?

So I was helping with what the OP has asked!

I don’t come on this forum for a battle so il not have anymore input on this thread.

Peace out

Thanks Danny appreciate your advice. You are right , the collage route is far too long for me and also the courses don't start until September. I am aware of my limitations from doing such courses however I do already have a basic understanding of these types of work after working along side this guy for number of years. I really wish I had looked into this before with his help .
