Hi Guys, I wondered if anyone can help, I am nearing the end of completing my level 2 C&G in electrical installation. Objective is to become a qualified domestic installer NIC registered. I know I have to do level 3 but in order to become a domestic and commercial installer do I also need to complete the industrial aspect as part of my level 3 aswell? Everyone I have spoken to the answer varies so I'm trying this forum for a more concrete answer...is there a difference between an approved electrician and a fully qualified electrician in terms of level of qualification? Any help or advice would be great...thanks.

Just wanted to say thanks for your reply, a few of including you have given me quite helpful responses...others though have been quite useless and quite rude too..but again thanks for a much appreciated response to my post.

NickD .... still wanting to take people at face value?

No need for this, teletrix gave you a suitable reply with a bit of light-hearted humour.

The level 3 qualification does include some industrial in the paper-work, and there's only a simple motor to wire up practically (unless its changed)

Crack on with level 3, do the NVQ level 3 ... im not sure why you're asking this question to be honest, you're on the right tracks as in terms of qualification but it seems your wanting a get out clause instead of seeing it through? I.E sacking off college and going straight into work .... could be wrong, thats how it came across.

Right NIC used to set the standard in the electrical trade, whereby being registered with them you were seen to be a decent company.

Then along came Part P scam, now you have to register with any of the scams to notify certain DOMESTIC jobs. Now obviously the NIC wanted some of this cash cow, so with out diluting there approved contractor status they came up with this name, if you look at the others who you can register with you won't find them calling it a domestic installer.
.

Dillb, thank you for your response that explained it all crystal for me. Thanks a lot, that's all I wanted to know!

I havnt given thousand of pounds to a training centre, I'm doing the full course not part bit nor looking for a short cut otherwise I'd have paid for that 5 week training course your talking about. Just want someone to explain why to me why on the NIC EIC Register for electricians it categorises them as DOMESTIC INSTALLERS it's a valid question yet your all getting out of your prams about it but not one has explained why it says domestic installer if a domestic installer doesn't exist? If you looked it's there to see...

This has nothing to do with the electrical industry. This is the NIC and their smart ideas...

Domestic Installer - House basher, gets assessed on bashing houses and nothing else. Can pretty much get DI status with just part-p and 17th i think.

Approved contractor - can do everything.

Although DI's do end up straying outside of housebashing - hense, the reason why i say the NIC's smart idea.

You want to be aiming for AC status and not DI imo.
