hi there my qualifications are as follows, part p,17th edition,c and g level 2 and 3 2330,and currently registered with elecsa.Does this make me qualified and is it just for domestic or can i do commercial, answers will be much appreciated coz i'm sick of hearing loads of different storys i just need to know once and for all ;)

Well that would depend on whether you deem yourself to be competent!
Part P is not a qualification and matters nothing to commercial work.
C&G parts 2&3 Make you an electrical installer as opposed to an electrician in the eyes of the JIB.
17th is a regs course.
So in fairness no, not in the eyes of the JIB unless you have grandfathers rights, you would need to complete an NVQ.

However this in no way stops you from completing domestic or commercial work, as long as you are a 'competent person' :-)

I ain't got an NVQ3...wasnt about when I qualified...236 parts 1&2, 17th edition, part p, 15th edition, am1 &2, a year or two in the trade...ok then, over 20 lol.Does this mean I'm not qualified? :)

Well no one can blame you for not having one if they hadn't invented it when you got your qualifications. Think it comes down to you being time served and with many years experience and having an equivalent to the NVQ. Long as you can prove competancy I don't see an issue, there are other ways of proving it that bits of formal paper.

with those fairly new scam part p qualifications it only makes you an "electrical installer". an electrical contractor wouldnt see you as an electrician because you are not im afraid. the qualifications you have are for someone wanting a house bashing business and to scrape through the domestic installer schemes.
this is not a personal attack on you mate just the system. an electrician is someone who has completed an approved apprenticeship of at least 4 years with xp in domestic, commercial & industrial installations. and mabye gaining supplementry quals after training like 17th and 2391 may give you added status as you can then apply to be a jib approved electrician. unfortunately the jib wouldnt grade you a qualified spark. sorry bud

Who are the JIB though? I mean it is on here seen as though they are our governing body. They aren't its the ECA which endorse the JIB. Yet to join the ECA you don't have to be JIB registered.
