Hi all,
I have some questions and hope you can give me the answers.
A few years ago I completed the City and Guilds 2360 followed by the 17th edition regulations update course. Since then I have been a handyman for a local company but I am now wanting to do some electrical work. So my questions are.
Do I need to do any other courses to allow me to sign off my own work?
Part P? Am I allowed to do work in Kitchens/Bathrooms etc?

Any help appreciated.

Have a dig on here into part p scheme membership and you'll get a shedload of info mate, also take a look at the individual scheme's websites for what they are looking for. Elecsa, NICEIC, NAPIT, BSI, Stroma. There's one or two others but they're all pretty much the same.

its competant persons fella as some about who hold this ticket, that and`t other are not competant...
part pee is not a qual mate....

Part P ain't a qualification, merely a scheme (scam) to self certify work.

You are more than qualified already to register with any of the Part P schemes. They need you do undertake an assessment, so make sure you can sign a cheque before registering for that!

testing course would help mate

Statements like this annoy the bejebbers out of me, if you are a COMPETENT Electrician then you know what makes a safe and an unsafe installation and you also know how to test it if you have been trained adequately and are truly COMPETENT. This bow locks by the NICEIC and the C&G that you need an additional qualification to be deemed fully trained is simply insulting to the majority of sparks and is purely about lining their pockets not yours.

This is why the BS7671 has always had T&I forms in the rear...

Can see your point mate, and i fully agree with it.

The problem is, the way the NIC have wormed there way in...if you don't have testing quals you don't have a leg to stand on in court should something go wrong.

Yes you do, the NIC have got nothing to do with it. Any magistrate will be looking at statutory documents for compliance which then point to BS7671. Magistrates aren't interested in the OPINIONS of a private company, only what is written down in law! It only asks for competence to I&T and the OP can stand in court and say that he learned to I&T on his 2360 course and had to pass a test at the end of the I&T module.

I always thought the 2391 separated the wheat from the chaff so to speak but seeing how many fast tracker 5 week wonders sit their 2391 now at the end of their course, guess their way through and pass just goes to show it aint that special. Nothing beats real experience.

Thanks, saved me a post while standing on my soap box :D
