hi im new to this forum so firstly hi, ill apologise now as im guessing this question comes up loads but when researching it seems to be a grey area

im looking and doing a bit of pat testing for a few DJ mates of mine and im nvq level 3 and am2 qualified but do i still need to do a pat testing course or am i classed as competent?

ok thanks, just making sure it wouldn't be invalid if i tested and passed the equipment for their insurance (better safe then sorry)

so short answer is i wont need to do the pat testing course lol?

I had to do it because the PAT testing company told the letting agents you had to have 2377 so I did it and sent a copy to the LAs advising it would be good idea for them to have a copy on record . So they requested copies from the PAT company and lets just say there was problems or as they say up here what goes around comes around :clap:

Or if his dog was particularly intelligent he could get him to do it. That way he'd have an independent 3rd party opinion

You shouldn't have to do it as you are presumably competent. I have done it as a site we work on didn't see a NVQ am2 and 10 years experience as enough evidence that I was ok to pat test. Wouldn't even bother with a course just take the exam and have a quick scan through the pat regs

I spent £190 to get "Certified" and although I did not need it after 36 years experience I had to play the game plus I attach a copy with the documentation still amazed that people don't realise that you do not have to be an electrician to PAT test
