Im working for a company doing electrical controls and want to have the qualifications to go with it and i am looking at doing them from home.
The lads at work have NVQ's but the home course i have found is a BTEC, what i want to know is whats the difference between the two and is the BTEC recognised every where that it needs to be and that i need it to be?

Possibly........

ONC/HNC Electrical/electronic engineering

ONC/HNC process engineering- instrumentation and control

ONC/HNC Process engineering (Mechatronics)

AFAIK the NVQ's are a work based qualification with less theory but more evidence of site work required, the NVQ is usually aimed at construction trades etc and work alongside theory qualifications City and guilds etc

The BTEC route is the engineering routeand quite heavy in theory compared to NVQs etc it is a vocational route to becoming an engineer the normal route is ONC-HNC-HND-Degree.

The BTEC quals are normally specified in most engineering position adverts and are respected qualifications (more so than NVQ's)

My advice to you is go on Jobsite etc and do a search for a position you want to be working in, there should be a section with required qualifications so you can see what will suit your career
