I could do with some advice please :)
I am going to start looking for electrical work soon. I am qualified but lack experience.
I have the following qualifications:

2382 17th Edition
2391-10 Inspection & Testing
2391-20 Design & Verification (passed exam, just waiting for project to be marked)

Although I have done electrical work in my own home, I have never been employed in it. I am competent at DIY and have most tools (electrical related and other) required. I also have my own test equipment.
I am good at fault finding electrics as I started my electronics hobby at primary school (built a remote control car for a primary school project), started soldering and programming EEPROMS when I was 11/12. Although this was just a hobby, I have never been employed in electronics.
I would consider myself mechanically minded.

Also, before I did the courses above, I was going to do the 2330 level 3. When I found out you have to do level 2 first I changed my mind as it would have taken 3 years. I have read the level 2 &3 books (Heinemann), I knew a lot of the content of both books already, but after reading both of them I now believe there is nothing in them that I don't understand.

Please don't think I'm boasting about things I've done, I'm just trying to get across where I am with regards to ability.

So, where do you think I should start?! And what sort of wage would I be looking at?

Thanks very much,
Chris

well i suppose its like owt here.......get yourself out with an electrician for ....i would say a year at least to get the site experience you will still need Rampage......besides....you should have no difficulty finding someone to give you a start with your tickets........but its still about site experience as well mate.....on the tools and so on and so forth......

Sorry to be negative but thread title says "qualified" but the only qualifications you have are a 17th edition regs course that every qualified spark has had to do to maintain their qualifications, an inspection and test ticket and a design ticket. The C&G 2330 which is the actual electrical qualification you have decided not to do is probably the one you most need IMO

I haven't got an apprenticeship no.
I agree with Glenn that I need to work with someone for a couple of years. But will I gain anything from doing the 2330 course for 3 years? There's nothing in the 2330 book that I don't understand, will a piece of paper saying I've passed a course on it make any difference?

Thanks.

It's the underpinning knowledge that's important mate, and being able to prove you have it. The only way to prove it is by the exam certificates.
The HNC will take you in another direction

well as a holder of a HNC...what makes you think that you would be starting on level 2 year1?.....As i have mentioned earlier on another thread...go to the local colleges to get the lowdown....see what the lecturers have to say.....i bet you now that you wont be on level 2 year 1...lol.....

Interestingly Glenn I just read your post in another thread about that.
Last time I went to a college to ask it was 3 years or nothing!

Whats the difference between the 2330 level 3 and the NVQ?

I take on alot of spaks and like to see they have there 2330 level three and there nvq 3, if you do these,2391 or 2392 should be quicker to get, i think you have done your qualifacations the wrong way round. it took me 5 years to do all mine, it takes time for pefection ha ha

Its a shame you didn't do english, that would have topped off your "perfection"
Sorry, I just could not resist it!!
