Hello,

I'm a qualified marine electrician, served my apprenticeship through the shipyards. I achieved an HNC in Electrical Engineering with a Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in Marine Engineering (Electrical/Electronic Installation and Testing), also got my 18th Edition.

I'm looking to leave the shipbuilding industry but I can't get an SJIB card with the apprenticeship I did, which I think is a bit daft as we do the same things in college and a lot of the work relates to outside work.

Does anyone know what routes I could go down? I'm struggling to get work since the qualification and industry is considered to be so specific.

Have you considered the north sea, or the wind industry. Your skills may be more relevant there.

I've recently bought a flat in Glasgow and not looking to relocate at the moment unless I've got no option.

I'd be more interested to find out if there would be any short courses etc that might let me more employable in other parts of industry. I don't doubt I have the skills, it's just the awkward qualification.
