I have got a job on changing a bathroom light, basically like for like, under the 17th regs can you do this, i haven't been round yet but if the bonding is inadequate and there is no rcd protection can you do like for like in special location or do you have to insist the installation is upgraded. I know that if it is inadequate i will inform him of this and recommend upgrade.

you would have to comply with the 17th, so the light should be on an RCD

Cheers, so basically in a special location you have to make sure the installation complies with all new regs before you can undertake any work, i presume in say a bedroom you can just change a light.

the rules apply everywhere, if you worked on a beddroom light, and the switch drops were buried etc etc, then arguably that should be on an RCD as well, although you cold equally argue that because you are not actually installing the switch drops, then it wont apply

ho hum!!!:p
