Question about finding a short circut

Dear all,

Am I right in thinking that to find the approximate point on a ring circuit where a short exists, you need to
isolate the circuit
connect line and earth (incoming and outgoing)at the CCU end
perform continuity test
establish cable sizes and use page 51 of Good Practice Guide to find approximate length of cable

On a ring I would isolate cct. Then I would find the approx middle of the ring and divide ring in half. Using IR on tester I would then test both halves of ring for a dead short. This should immeadiatley eliminate half of the ring as being ok. Then carry on dividing down in half and testing IR on each suspect half until you locate the damaged part of the cct.

I would do exactly same as saveloy

And i would ! never fails also finds those hidden fuse spurs thats why best done on 250v IR test could also do continuity test !
