This is an actual job and not from a past paper etc. It is a place I do a bit of work for.

The warehouse manager asked me to make up a 50 meter extension lead for his pressure jet wash machine to be used to clean the path leading to the showroom entrance, car park and the lorries. The pressure washer will use a max of 13A and will be plugged into a Blue 230V commando outlet which is protected by a 16A MCB, commando socket is wired in 4mm singles in galv conduit about 4m from the DB so volt drop/cable size/MCB is not a problem and it is on its own circuit. (more info than what is needed but I'm painting a picture for you lol).

Q:- What type of cable would you used and why?

Q:- What CSA of cable would you use and why?

Q:- Is it necessary to provide rcd/rcbo protection in this situation?

DONT POST UP YOUR ANSWERS. Please pm me your findings to give everyone a chance to see this thread and in a week I will post up the answers. Just have a go at it, I will not take the Mick out of any silly answers (ok I might have a bit of banter ).

This is a good little exercise for you all and it is something different than the exam mock question.

I await your PM's. Better clean out my inbox lol

Q:- What type of cable would you used and why?
***** removed***** because when you throw it in a cupboard without coiling it up it's easier to untangle than PVC cable.

Q:- What CSA of cable would you use and why?
***** removed*****mm because I recovered a length from a second-hand machine a while ago and that's what size it is.

Q:- Is it necessary to provide rcd/rcbo protection in this situation?
***** removed*****, under SANS0142 the circuit from the DB ***** removed***** RCD protection but pressure washers are notoriously prone to high amounts of ***** removed***** especially after having being used for a while so I'd be tempted to wire the circuit ***** removed***** so as not to cause ***** removed*****

How did I do? Assuming I did good, where do I apply for my JIB card? ;)

Paul, you answered half of this in the scenario mate.

Yes mate but it is making them think  All the info is there for them, all is needed is to design via the regs. As I said, this is not a past paper question so it is something a little bit different.

PS. Has Steve told you about hitting a gas pipe the other week on that site you both tested?

Simon your are close mate.

As for ChrisUK......... Read the question again my friend. Hint to you all.... We are not talking about fixed wiring!

Sarz11....... Have a go. You are with friends in here. That is the whole point of this thread.

@ ChrisUK, I'll call you soon about jumping on this job in Nottingham and giving you some SWA glanding experience. Meet up for a pint this week?
